About Us

Emmanuel

The church foundation stone was laid on Saturday 14th May, 1910. The completed building being consecrated on 31st July, 1911 by Rt. Rev. E.A. Knox, Bishop of Manchester.

Today the church family comes from a variety of backgrounds. We seek to explore together the wonder of God's love for us in Jesus Christ, and to discover that life of adventure, of reality, peace and joy which Jesus died and rose again to give us.

St George's

A growing population and new postwar housing around Whitegate End saw the need for a daughter church to be planted there, on the site of what had come to be known as the 'hut'.

The foundation stone for St George's was laid on Whit Sunday 9th June, 1957, and opened on 27th April 1958 by the Bishop of Middleton.

Today St George's is a friendly family church serving all ages of the community.

We are in the process of a major restructuring of our parish facilities.  We are exploring the viability of running two separate sites, and the implications to ministry of focusing all of our activities at the one site, and building a new purpose built worship centre, freeing up the present building to become more focused on serving the community and enabling the worship centre to retain a sense of the sacred.
